Egypt 

One of the most popular holiday destinations for Europeans. Despite the short (only a few hours by plane) travel distance and it's huge popularity we recommend to you to familiarise yourself with some basic information prior to your holiday.  We have collected all the essential information for you here to make your journey in this exotic country pleasant and unforgettable! :)

Basic Information

Currency: Egyptian Pounds (1 EUR = 20 EGP). You can change your currency in Egypt (EURO, GBP, USD) as well as pay with it, however it is always better to pay with local currency. The exchange rate given by the local shops will not be as attractive as Bank or official exchange point’s rate.

Prices: Hotels and restaurants: Dinner - approx. 150EGP, Water (1,5l) – 10EGP, beer – 50EGP, tea/coffee – 25EGP. Supermarkets: tea/coffee - 10-20EGP, Water (1,5l) - 10-20EGP, beer 25EGP.

Local time: Standard time zone UTC/GMT +1 hour

Language: official language: Arabic. English is commonly used.

Visa: mandatory “upon arrival” visa. Cost: 25USD, valid: 30 days.

Passport: must be valid at least 6 months and have a double blank page for the visa

Health

Medical care:  El Gouna hospital is regarded as one of the best hospitals in Egypt. Doctor’s appointment: 20-40 USD. Hospital treatment: 100 – 300 USD per day. Payments for medical services – cash.

Vaccinations: No mandatory vaccinations. There is no risk of any epidemic diseases. Use only bottled water for drinking. You should avoid uncooked vegetables and peel fruit. Avoid drinks with ice as tap water could have been used to make it.

Sun and swimming:  Avoid long exposure to the sun, which can be intense. Use plenty of high factor sun cream and drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Nudity and topless sunbathing is forbidden.

Attention: In case of diarrhea use local medicine: Antinal that works for different type of bacteria than European medicine.

Airport transfers: We can organize airport pick ups and drop offs. Just drop us a line prior to your arrival and a taxi or bus will be waiting for you. Pre ordering the taxi saves you money and time, as tour operators transfer offered by the hotels do not go directly to your hotel but stops on the way to drop of guests from several hotels. The easiest way is to just send us an e-mail on: info@redseazone.com with details such as: number of persons, equipment, flight number and schedule. Once outside the terminal you will come to El Gouna in as little as 30 minutes!

Others

Electricity: Voltage: 220 Volts. Primary socket: europlug in most of the hotels.

Tips and baksheesh: tipping is very much part of Egyptian culture therefore you should tip for the services provided.

Food: El Gouna offers a wide variety of restaurants, pubs, cafeterias with good food and drinks. Alcohol beverages are mainly local.

Attention: Taking away any part of reef, shells, sand is strictly forbidden by law!
